The best animated short films!

Short animated films have the characteristic of telling a story or conveying a social message. Some can sensitize and others can entertain. Others may be a little "dark", romantic and others may be funny. I like to watch them anyway. And the best? They're available on YouTube, you can find too many of them and watch them whenever you want (young and old). Some of them have been nominated or have won a prize.


I have gathered some of my favorites that I would like to share:


1) "Canned"

2) "Thought of you"

Breathtaking, fantastic and inspiring short film which explores the theme of love through expressive figure drawings and contemporary dance.

3) "The LEGO® Story"

As The LEGO Group celebrates its 80th Birthday, we take a look back at its history with this short animated film.

4) "Heart"

An intriguing and well animated short film by the talented animator and film maker Erick Oh. HEART is an exploration of transcendence. HEART presents questions through abstract metaphors and symbols, illustrated by the human heart.

5) "How Unexpected"

6) "Can I Stay"

Check out this heartwarming CGI short animated film about an apprehensive homeless girl who must traverse a dangerous, wintry city in order to escape her adorable pursuers.

7) "Last Shot"

CGI 3D Animated Last Shot Animated Short Film by Aemilia Widodo from Ringling College of Art and Design.

Just discovering the joys of photography, a girl ends up breaking his camera by accident.

 

8) "Farewell"

Watch this beautiful 3D animated short called "Farewell", after the loss of woman's baby during pregnancy, the strange arrival of a hand-drawn bird opens the mind of this young artist for a new start!

9) "Course of nature"

Check out this adorable and heart-warming 3D Animated short called "Course Of Nature", in a world where rain is produced by puppy-like rain clouds, Mother Nature's young daughter sets them free to save them from evaporation.

Created by the talented team of Lucy Xue and Paisley Manga.

10) "The Controller"

CGI Animated The Controller Short Film by Bob Yong, Kang Yung Ho, Ian Ie from Ringling college of art and design.

Roles are reversed when a controlling mom is trapped in her son’s video game. Helpless, she now has to listen to him if she hopes to escape the unfamiliar game world.

 

11) "In a Heartbeat"

Animated Short Film by Beth David and Esteban Bravo. A closeted boy runs the risk of being outed by his own heart after it pops out of his chest to chase down the boy of his dreams.

12) "The Present"

The Present Short Film by Jacob Frey.

After a very successful festival circuit, running on over 180 film festivals and winning more than 50 awards, we’ve decided that it’s finally time to share “The Present” with the rest of the world.

“The Present” is a thesis short from the Institute of Animation, Visual Effects and Digital Postproduction at the Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg in Ludwigsburg, Germany.

13) "Tamara"

A child's dream will overcome all circumstances.

14) "Mom"

In Korean, "wedding" has the meaning of "going to husband's house". In other words, "leaving her home".

This is a story about a woman, who was a baby, daughter, lady, wife, and mom.

 

15) "The Wishgranter"

CGI 3D Animated Short Film "The Wishgranter" by Kal Athannassov, John McDonald, Echo Wu.

Set in a world where wishes are granted by mythical beings that live under fountains, an apathetic wish granter is forced to go above ground to grant a wish of love.

 

16) "Free Wheel"

Check out this Fantastic CGI Animated short film by the talented Free Wheel Team.

In the late 50's, in the world famous Roller Derby Hall of Fame, the daily routine of an unassuming cleaning lady will unexpectedly go freewheeling, kicking-off her whole new life.

17) "Extinguished"

CGI Short Film "Extinguished" by Ashley Anderson and Jacob Mann.

In a world where flames represent love, it's easy to get your heart burned.

18) "Un Sacré Mariage!" (A sacred marriage)

Check out this funny award winning 2D animated short by the talented Francis Papillon & Gregory Verreault, about an ordinary wedding which turns into the event of the year when the nun responsible for the music accidentally plays the wrong CD.

19) "A Ninja's Love Is Blind"

A really awesome and cute short love story of Ninjas.

An awesome example of CGI Animation, 3D and Light Action.

 

20) "JINXY JENKINS & LUKCY LOU"

When the chaotically misfortunate Jinxy Jenkins and the monotonously Lucky Lou run into each other one morning, they find a thrilling and fulfilling change of pace as they hurtle down the hills of San Francisco in an ice cream cart.

21) "SWING OF CHANGE"

New York 30's: Harry, a racist barber changes his mind at the arrival of a magical trumpet in his barber shop.

A cranky barber tries to play a military march with the trumpet he as taken from a street musician, but the trumpet has a life of its own.

Enjoy this cute CGI 3D animated short created at the prestigious ArtFx School of special effects and 3D animation.

In 2015, selfies claimes more victims than sharks.

23) "Paperman"

24) "The Gift"

25) "On The Same Page"

CGI 3D Animated On The Same Page Short Film by Carla Lutz and Alli Norman.

An introverted writer in a newspaper world has nothing to write about until he is whirled away into a colorful journey with his neighbor from the comic section.

26) "Life as a series of games"

Watch this clever 3D animated short called "Life as a Series of Games".

The depicts different events and stages of human life as a series of games as the different stations of life are connected by a row of falling dominoes.

The film was created as a student project at the universtiy of Bayreuth in Germany.

27) "Love story of two couples"

Enjoy this award winning CGI 3D animated short film about a young and hyper man who falls in love with a girl addicted to her phone.

Created by the talented team of William Loew, Davy Crosta, Alcindo Da Conceicao, Adrien Cuvit, Anne-Charlotte Benasouli , and Camille Burdy.

"Histoire 2 Couples" is a short animated movie realized by 6 students from the school ARIES Lyon, section expert cycle, animated movie specialty.
